Thema Zuma will be hoping for third time lucky as she fights against Bathabile Ziqubu in a vacant South African female junior-bantamweight title contest at the Greyville Convention Centre in Durban on Sunday.
Already, Zuma has failed twice in her bid to win an SA title. She lost to Simangele Hadebe during a vacant SA female flyweight title fight in September last year. She also lost when she challenged former SA female bantamweight champion Melissa Miller in March 2019.
Both Zuma and Ziqubu go to Sunday’s clash with contrasting fortunes. Zuma has lost her last five fights – three of those losses were against Hadebe with a loss each to Miller and Sharadene Fortuin.
On the other hand, Ziqubu has done well in her last two fights defeating Nosiacwase Dube and Lufuno Mutshayi in December and September respectively.
