Johannesburg-based boxing trainer Alan Toweel is working towards causing an upset when his boxer Rofhiwa Nemushungwa challenges Ronald Malindi next month.
Nemushungwa is due to challenge South African bantamweight champion Malindi at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, on Friday, 8 July.
“This is a big one, Rofhiwa challenging Malindi. A very tough fight against an unbeaten Malindi, who has defended his title on numerous occasions. We are just grateful we got the opportunity and we are gonna give it our all,” Toweel remarked.
Already, Malindi has defended his title three times with his last defence having been a win over Lwandile Sityata in East London in March 2020.
Malindi has won all his 18 fights with half of those ending in stoppages while Nemushungwa’s record stands at 13 wins with three knockouts, seven losses and two draws.
“It’s a big chance for Rofhiwa. He’s an underdog, his record is not as good as Malindi’s. He’s fighting a guy who’s undefeated. It will be one of the biggest shocks in SA boxing if he wins. That’s what we are working on,” Toweel said.
