There will be no Iran friendly match for Bafana Bafana after they had played the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Thursday evening (21h00).

This was confirmed by the chief executive officer of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Tebogo Motlanthe on Thursday.

“From where we are standing we have done all our paperwork with Iran where we were even requested to send the passports of players. Later they came back and said they are unable to play us,” Motlanthe revealed.

“Of course, they said that through agents. Because of their late cancellation, we unfortunately do not have any friendly this window period. But the coach has promised to submit his September programme, which will include friendlies. He promised to give us once we are back in the country. As an association, we need to make sure that everything is readily available.”

Meanwhile, Motlanthe has said that he’s happy with Bafana Bafana’s preparations ahead of their match against Morocco.

“I think one is happy. We were able, administratively, to give the coach and the technical team the support they wanted. All that he had requested we have availed for him and the players. We can only hope for positive results,” Motlanthe said.
