That Filipino boxers are always tough customers is something that East London boxing trainer Thembani Gopheni fully understands as he’s preparing his boxer Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo for his fight against Bienvenido Ligas Junior from the Philippines.
Sigqibo clashes with the Filipino boxer in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title fight at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday, 3 July.
So serious about this fight that Gopheni has made sure that they watched more than three videos of the Filipino in action.
“This is an important fight to us. We have managed to watch four of our opponent’s videos on YouTube. We now know what to expect from him. The videos are helping us in our fight plans,” Gopheni said.
This is a very important fight for Sigqibo in his quest to get a very good rating in the IBF junior-bantamweight division.
Sigqibo’s last fight was a sixth round stoppage of Tanzanian boxer Hamidu Kwata in December while Ligas Jr defeated his compatriot Roland Jay Biendima on points in March this year.
