A fight that many boxing followers have been calling for is finally happening as Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi and Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai have signed up to face each other.
The 32-year-old Komanisi is going to challenge South African lightweight champion Munyai at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 17 September.
This fight is going to be on the undercard of Kevin Lerena’s shootout against former world heavyweight title contender Mariusz Wach from Poland.
“I have already signed to fight against Munyai in September. We will be fighting in a Golden Gloves tournament,” Komanisi, a former SA and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight titlist, confirmed.
Makwarela-born Munyai, who turned 37 last month, said: “Yes, we have signed a contract to fight against Komanisi. I have always wanted to fight against Komanisi and he has always wanted to fight me. No one is gonna duck now that we have signed the contracts. We will be fighting on the undercard of the Lerena fight.”
Munyai will be making the fourth defence of his national title having already successfully defended it three times against Aphiwe Mboyiya, Sanele Msimang and Khaya Busakwe.
Meanwhile, Mdantsane-born Komanisi, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, first has a date with Tanzanian boxer Cosmas Checka.
Komanisi clashes with Checka in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African lightweight title bout at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane next Sunday.
