Hekkie ‘Hexecutioner’ Budler overcame Mexican boxer Elwin ‘La Pulga’ Soto in a World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-flyweight elimination bout at Palenque Fex in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on Sunday morning (South African time).
The 34-year-old former Ring Magazine champion won the fight with 114-113 on all judges’ scorecards. Budler is now eligible to challenge WBC junior-flyweight titlist Kenshiro ‘The Amazing Boy’ Teraji from Japan.
South Africa’s most successful boxer survived an early onslaught from Soto and decked the former World Boxing Organisation junior-flyweight champion in the 12th round.
