Title-winning Mdantsane boxer Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete is set to land at the King Phalo Airport in East London at 17h15 on Monday.
Tete returns home from the United Kingdom after he stopped Yorkshire-based Jason Cunningham in the fourth round during their fight at the Ovo Arena in Wembley, London, on Saturday evening.
As a result of the win over Cunningham, Tete won the IBF International, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and Commonwealth junior-featherweight titles.
The erstwhile IBF junior-bantamweight and WBO bantamweight champion will arrive home to a motorcade, which will take him to the City Hall.
Tete, who is 34 years old, is expected to move up the ratings in both the IBF and the WBO. Already, Tete is rated sixth by the WBO.
His promoter Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions promised before the fight that the winner would challenge World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’ and IBF junior-featherweight champion Murudjon Akhmadaliev from Uzbekistan.
Akhmadaliev successfully defended his titles with a 12th round stoppage of American Ronny Rios last weekend.
