After causing an upset by stopping former SA champion Sibusiso Zingange in the 10th round in May, Lunga Sitemela is now set to defend his title in two months’ time.
Sitemela will make the first defence of his SA junior-lightweight title against Lucky Monyebane at the Grandwest Casino in Cape Town in September.
The 32-year-old Sitemela, who was born in Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape, is yet to lose against a South African boxer.
“I’ll be defending against Lucky monyebane in September at the Grandwest,” Sitemela said.
Sitemela’s only loss in his professional career was against Tajikistan boxer Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov when they fought for the World Boxing Council (WBC) International title in Russia in March last year.
Meanwhile, it’s going to be the second time Monyebane attempts to win the national title. He was stopped in the 11th round when he attempted to wrestle the crown from former champion Phila Mpontshane at the Portuguese Hall in September 2017.
Monyebane will go to the Sitemela fight following his win over Malawian Romeo Makwakwa at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg three months ago.
