Former world champion Gideon ‘Hardcore’ Buthelezi does not have a problem in going down from junior-bantamweight to the flyweight division.

Buthelezi, who will celebrate his 36th birthday 13 days before his vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight title fight against unbeaten Filipino boxer Dave Apolinario, has spent the past two weeks training in Mdantsane.

The southpaw’s shootout against Apolinario is going to be promoted by Xaba Promotions at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday, 29 July.

“The IBO title is vacant and I have no problem going down to the flyweight division. This is the route we are taking,” Buthelezi confirmed.

Buthelezi from Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark, in the Vaal has been campaigning in the junior-bantamweight division for more than six years now.

The two-time IBO junior-bantamweight champion has also held the minimumweight and junior-flyweight titles in the same organisation. Buthelezi was stripped of his IBO junior-bantamweight title because of inactivity last year.
