Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis won the CAF Coach of the Year award in the women’s category at the 2022 CAF Awards ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday evening.
This the third time Cape Town-born Ellis won the same award. The 59-year-old coach won the award in 2018 and 2019.
Ellis is going to lead Banyana when they face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies walked away with the Women’s Club of the Year award. The Sundowns Ladies made history when they became the the first ever CAF Women’s Champions League winners after they defeated Hasaacas Ladies from Ghana 2-0 in November last year.
