Banyana Banyana have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament after a 2-1 victory over Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the final, which was played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday evening. 

Playing in their sixth final, coach Desiree Ellis’ Banyana made sure that they return home with the trophy without losing a match in the entire tournament. 

After a goalless first half, Banyana pressed hard and their efforts were rewarded with two Hilda Magaia goals. 

Magaia netted her first goal after she received a pass from Jermaine Seoposenwe in the 63rd minute. Eight minutes later, Magaia completed her brace following a pass from Karabo Dhlamini. 

Rosella Ayane cut the deficit into half when she scored for the Atlas Lionesses 10 minutes before full-time. Ayane coolly slotted past Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini off Fatima Tagnaout pass. 

Meanwhile, each Banyana player is going to pocket R400 000 for winning the WAFCON tournament.
