Phumelela ‘Truth’ Cafu fully understands the importance of coming out victorious when he meets Filipino boxer Ben Mananquil on Friday evening.
The two boxers are going to trade blows in a vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title contest at a Xaba Promotions tournament scheduled for the East London International Convention Centre (ICC).
“I met my opponent and he’s not intimidating. I saw that I have a reach advantage something which I believe is going to help me during the fight,” Cafu, who turned 24 on Tuesday, said.
Cafu from Duncan Village in East London engaged the services of former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion Gideon Buthelezi as his sparring partner while preparing for this fight.
Buthelezi is also going to fight in the same bill against unbeaten Dave Apolinario from the Philippines in a vacant IBO flyweight title bout.
“I sparred with southpaws while preparing for this fight. Gideon Buthelezi was my main sparring partner. He’s an experienced boxer and he taught me a lot during our sparring sessions. This is a very important fight to me as a win is going to take my career further,” Cafu said.
