It was a vintage Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni as he outpointed Filipino boxer Reymond Yanong at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Thursday evening.
Ndongeni dominated Yanong from the first bell hitting him with nice combinations in a junior-welterweight 10 rounds bout.
There were moments when KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni looked like he wanted to end the fight early, but his Filipino opponent continued to come forward despite being on the receiving end of the former world champion’s blows.
All three judges – Riaan Janse van Rensburg (97-93) Siyabulela Mani (99-92) and Toto Shweni (100-91) – agreed that Ndongeni was dominant against Yanong.
Meanwhile, Sabelo Ngebiyana from Komani became the first boxer to inflict defeat on Mzuvukile Magwaza when he outpointed in a much-awaited in the same bill.
Ngebiyana, a former South African junior-bantamweight titlist, was the busiest boxer and he won all the three judges’ score cards.
