Chippa United coach Daine Klate is quite happy with the squad he has assembled just a week before the beginning of the 2022/23 season.
Klate is going to start life as a coach in the DStv Premiership following his promotion from the Chilli Boys’ Diski Challenge team.
“The composition of the squad looks very, very good. For the most part, whoever we found in the team is capable of being part of the team,” Klate remarked.
“The amount of changes wasn’t much. We are very, very happy with the composition of the squad. All you need as a coach is a bit of quality, which I think we have. Obviously, the games will tell us what needs strengthening.”
The Chilli Boys open the new season with an away clash against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday, 7 August.
This match will pit Matsatsantsa a Pitori coach Gavin Hunt against his former team. Hunt was fired from the Chilli Boys midway through last season after he failed to produce results.
And the 37-year-old Klate has insisted that he’s happy that the Chilli Boys had a preseason camp in Durban where they played friendly matches.
“The preseason camp in Durban, the week was important to us. We played four friendly matches, which gave us an idea of where we are and where we need to go. It helped us a lot in learning about the team, the players, working with different personalities,” Klate said.
“The camp gave us a clear indication of who we are working with, what needs to happen, what needs to be instilled in the boys. All in all, the preparations have been going very well.”
