South Africa’s most successful boxer Hekkie ‘Hexecutioner’ Budler might challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-flyweight champion Kenshiro ‘The Amazing’ Teraji later this year.

This was revealed by Budler’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, who added that they have started negotiations with Teraji’s camp.

The 34-year-old Budler earned the right to challenge Teraji after he outpointed Mexican boxer Elwin Soto in Mexico in June. Teraji stopped his compatriot Masamichi Yabuki in the third round earlier this year.

And Nathan is hoping that Akihiko Honda from Teiken Promotions will promote Budler’s fight against Teraji.

“We have started negotiations. Probably, we’ll do the fight with Mr Honda. I’d like the fight to be held in Japan. They are quite honourable there,” Nathan remarked.

“Obviously, the opportunity is very big. Teiken Promotions pretty much control Asian boxing. I’ve dealt with Mr Honda before and he’s very easy to deal with.”

Having been a World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) champion, Budler is yet to rule the WBC and the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
