The Springboks thrashed the All Blacks 26-10 to hand them their third straight loss in front of 42 367 people at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday evening.
Kurt-Lee Arendse scored his first try for the Boks when he dotted in the eighth minute after a Lukhanyo Am offload. Flyhalf Handre Pollard converted to make it 7-0.
Pollard added a converted penalty in the 22nd minute to increase the Boks’ lead to 10-0.
The All Blacks replied when Jordie Barrett converted a penalty four minutes before half-time.
Early in the second half, Somerset West-born Pollard added another penalty and a drop goal to make it 16-3. Seven minutes before full-time, Pollard converted a penalty to take the score to 19-3.
The Boks were reduced to 14 men after Arendse was red carded for dangerous play on All Blacks’ Beauden Barrett in the 75th minute.
Just as the clock was ticking towards the end of the match, the All Blacks scored a try through Shannon Frizell in the 79th minute and Richie Mo’unga converted.
As if that was not enough, the Boks scored their second try through Willie le Roux at the death. Pollard converted to make it 26-10 for the Boks to record their biggest win over the All Blacks in 94 years.
