Noni Tenge will get to fight for the first time in more than three years when she clashes with Maricela Cornejo from the United States (US).

Tenge and Cornejo will be fighting for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) female welterweight title at the Feathermarket Theatre in Gqeberha on Sunday, 9 October.

Gqeberha-based Tenge hasn’t fought since her win over Mapule Ngubane in a WBF junior-middleweight female title fight at the Mdantsane Indoor Sport Centre in August 2019.

On the other hand, the 35-year-old Cornejo will be involved in a world title fight for the second time since 2016. Cornejo lost to her compatriot Kali Reis in a World Boxing Council (WBC) female middleweight title contest at The Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, in April 2016.

Meanwhile, Tenge was supposed to have fought against Ema Kozin from Slovenia in Germany in May, however that bout failed to materialise.
