The Confederation of African Football (CAF) launched the Africa Super League at the Arusha International Convention Centre in Tanzania, on Wednesday.

The competition is going to be made up of 24 highest-ranked clubs from 16 countries with 197 matches being played between 23 August 2023 and 24 May 2024. 

The tournament has a $100 million (R16,5 billion) in prize money with the winner going to pocket $11,5m (R191m). 

Egypt has four clubs – Al Ahly, Zamalek, Pyramid and Al Masry – with South Africa and Morocco having three teams each. 

SA clubs Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are going to take part in the competition so are Wydad Club Athletic, Raja Athletic and RS Berkane from Morocco.
