Mpumelelo Tshabalala from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni is among three South African boxers who are going to try and foil an invasion of East London by Filipino boxers next month.

The SA junior-flyweight champion clashes with Melvin Manangquil in an eight rounds bout at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Sunday, 23 October.

Tshabalala will be fighting for the first time since his split decision victory over Sikho Moshani in July. That was Tshabalala’s first defence of the SA title he won when he stopped Xolisani Magusha six months ago.

On the other hand, Manangquil from Manila in the Philippines last fought when he lost to his compatriot Reymark Alicaba in February this year.

Meanwhile, SA junior-bantamweight champion Lwandile Ngxeke and Mthokozisi Ngxaka will also face Pinoy opponents.

Ngxeke is set to clash with Jayr Raquinel in a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title and Ngxaka faces Jake Amparo in an eight rounds bout.
