Just after finishing training with his teammates at Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday, Ashley du Preez received an unexpected call.

It was a call, which has a potential to change his life as a footballer. The call was informing him about being invited to become part of the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of international friendly matches against Sierra Leone and Botswana.

“It was actually strange. I was at practice at Chiefs. On my way home, I received a call,” Du Preez said.

The 25-year-old Du Preez, who is in his first season at Chiefs after signing from Stellenbosch FC, replaced injured Lyle Foster in the Bafana squad.

“Every player wants to make their mark. This is exactly what I want to do. I want to show the world what Ashley du Preez can do,” the Idas Valley-born forward said.

Bafana face Sierra Leone at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Saturday and then clash with Botswana at the same venue three days later.
