It was a match filled with drama as AmaZulu held Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw in an MTN8 first leg semi-final encounter at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
Usuthu raced to a 16th minute 1-0 lead after Malawian Gabadinho Mhango breached Amakhosi’s defence and beat Itumeleng Khune.
AmaZulu, who led 1-0 at half-time, were reduced to 10 men after match referee Victor Gomes red carded defender Veluyeke Zulu for a second bookable offence in the 54th minute.
Having a numerical advantage, Amakhosi attacked relentless and their efforts were rewarded with Keagan Dolly’s equaliser in the 61st minute.
There was drama when Gomes red carded Mhango, who had already been replaced, and Usuthu goalkeeper coach Abselon Yohan two minutes from time.
More drama was to follow as Gomes showed Chiefs’ George Matlou a red card for pushing Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa after the end of the match.
