Being a personal trainer and livestock farming are going to take a huge chunk of Moruti ‘Babyface’ Mthalane’s time now that he has hung up his gloves.
Mthalane, who made his professional debut in December 2000, called it a day after his win over Filipino boxer Diomel Diocos at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Sunday.
“I returned to Johannesburg on Monday after Sunday’s fight. I’m sorting out a few things here in Johannesburg before going back to KwaZulu-Natal. I won’t be going back to KwaZulu-Natal for good because I have a business here in Johannesburg,” Mthalane said.
Mthalane, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on Thursday, registered 40 wins and three losses since making his professional debut in December 2000.
“I’m a personal trainer. I have more than 30 clients at my gym in Honeydew and I hope to grow the number now that I’m not a boxer anymore. I didn’t have much time to train my clients when I was still a professional boxer. Now I will have all the time to concentrate on being a personal trainer,” he remarked.
The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight champion is also involved in livestock farming in KwaZulu-Natal. He has cows, goats and sheep at the Mthalane farm in Impendle.
“I have 94 cows, 44 goats and 25 sheep at our family farm in Impendle. Livestock farming has been my side hustle for years now. I started buying livestock in 2014,” the former world champion revealed.
