Nomvelo Magcaba-Shezi of Mvelo Boxing Promotions is honoured to have promoted three-time world champion Moruti ‘Babyface’ Mthalane’s last fight as a professional boxer.
Mthalane, who turns 40 on Thursday, defeated Diomel Diocos from the Philippines on points at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Sunday.
“I’m very happy and honoured to have promoted Moruti’s last fight,” Magcaba-Shezi, who is a former professional boxer, remarked.
“Everything went very well during the tournament. That was a fitting farewell for someone like Moruti.”
Lindelani-born Mthalane did very well inside the ring since he made his professional debut in a fight against Wiseman Mnguni in December 2000.
He hung up his gloves with an impressive record of 40 wins and three defeats. The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight champion stopped 26 of his opponents.
Former national flyweight champion Nkqubela Gwazela from Mqanduli remains the only South African boxer to have beaten Mthalane.
Mthalane’s other losses were against former world champion Nonito Donaire and current IBF flyweight titlist Sunny Edwards.
