The Springbok women’s team were no match for their French counterparts in the Women’s Rugby World Cup tournament in Auckland.
The French beat the South Africans 40-5 in their Pool C opening match at Eden Park, Auckland, on Saturday morning (South African time).
Fourth-ranked France ran in six tries – two by Laure Sansus while the other fivers came from Gabrielle Vernier, Emili Boulard Caroline Drouin and Joanna Grisez with Nomawethu Mabenge scoring South Africa’s only try. Drouin succeeded with two conversions while Lina Queyroi converted three times.
Meanwhile, the South Africans are going to face Fiji in their second match of the tournament next Sunday. They will finish their Pool stages campaign with a clash against England on Sunday, 23 October.
