Three converted penalties earned Kaizer Chiefs a 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in a DStv Premiership match played at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi started the match like a house on fire and had many goal scoring opportunities before the half hour mark. However, they failed to score them.

The home side scored first through Nhlanhla Mgaga following Njabulo Blom’s blunder in the 28th minute.

Amakhosi were dealt a big blow when their injured goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune had to be substituted by Brandon Petersen in the 38th minute.

Chiefs levelled matters after Caleb Bimenyimana scored from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.

Match referee Tshidiso Maruping awarded Chiefs a penalty after Stellies defender and captain Mogamad de Goede had fouled Bimenyimana inside the box.

Amakhosi were also awarded a second penalty, which was scored by Bimenyimana four minutes into the second half after Fawaaz Basadien handled inside the box.

Stellies were reduced to 10 men after De Goede was red carded in the 55th minute following a foul on Bimenyimana.

Maruping awarded Chiefs a third penalty, which was converted by Bimenyimana to complete his hattrick in the 56th minute.
