Having stopped his last two opponents, South African junior-bantamweight champion Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke wouldn’t mind registering yet another stoppage when he faces Jayr Raquinel from the Philippines on Sunday, 23 October.

Ngxeke and Raquinel are going to clash in a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title fight at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in East London.

“I’m prepared for this fight. My main aim is to fight for the world title one day. This coming fight is a step towards fighting for the world title,” Ngxeke remarked.

Ngxeke from Sada in the Eastern Cape stopped Athenkosi Dumezweni in the 10th round to win the then vacant SA junior-bantamweight title at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg in April. He then went on to defend his title with a fourth round stoppage victory over Lindile Tshemese in June.

The 25-year-old Raquinel, meanwhile, has not fought since he lost to his compatriot Giemel Magramo in October last year.

Ngxeke is still unbeaten after winning nine fights (four knockouts) and drawing once while Raquinel has a professional record of 12 victories (nine stoppages), two defeats and a draw.

Though the 27-year-old Ngxeke has admitted that Raquinel is a strong boxer, he has insisted that he’s not afraid of the Filipino.

“I have watched some of his fights. He’s a strong boxer, but he doesn’t scare me. It would be great to stop him even though I’m prepared to go the full 12 rounds,” Ngxeke said.
