Former South African, Cape and Border junior-bantamweight champion Simphiwe Pamana has passed away. He was 52.

Apparently, Pamana passed away following a hit and run accident in East London last Sunday.

Pamana’s family members had been looking for the former champion for almost a week until they found his body at the Westbank mortuary in East London on Friday.

In a professional career, which started in 1989 and ended in 2002, Pamana won 20 fights with eight of those via the short distance and lost four times.

He defeated Jaji Sibali at the Orient Theatre in East London to win the SA junior-babtanweight title in October 1992. A year later, Sibali dethroned him in a rematch at the Carousel Casino in Hammanskraal.

Pamana tried and failed three times in his bid to win the SA bantamweight title. He was defeated by Patrick Quka in May 1995 and then lost twice to the late Sandile Sobandla in May 1998 and December 2000.
