Caretaker coach Morgan Mammila knew what to expect before leading his team Chippa United to a 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match in Durban on Saturday evening.

The Chilli Boys came from behind and defeated Amakhosi with second half strikes from Siphelele Luthuli and an Edmilson Dove own goal after Siyabonga Ngezana had given Chiefs the lead in the first stanza.

“Of course, I knew from day one that it’s gonna be a difficult match. One thing for sure is that they’ve got weak points. They don’t like chasing,” Mammila said.

“So I told my players firstly let’s control the tempo of the game. We did that in the first five minutes. They couldn’t even mark us. The plan worked, we are happy. We move on to the next game.”

The Chilli Boys have collected maximum points – six away and three at home – in their last three matches. They have beaten Chiefs, Marumo Gallants (1-0) and AmaZulu (2-1) since they fired Daine Klate last month.

“I’m happy for the boys because they worked hard for this. Remember, the last match was on the 17th if I’m not mistaken. I’m happy with where we are,” the former Baroka FC chief executive officer said.

Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys are now going to clash with Sekhukhune United at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Tuesday (17h00).
