Claressa Shields became the undisputed world female middleweight champion after she defeated Savannah Marshall on points at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, on Saturday evening.
Al three judges – Luigi Boscarelli (97-93), Steve Gray (96-94) and Frank Lombardi (97-93) – saw that Shields did enough to win this fight.
Shields added the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) female middleweight belt to her World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) crowns.
The 27-year-old Shields has now won all her 13 fights with two of those wins coming from stoppages while Marshall, 31, dropped to 12 victories (10 knockouts) and a loss.
This fight was what boxing followers had been waiting for as both boxers didn’t mind engaging after entering the ring with unbeaten records. However, one of them had to lose and it was Marshall, who lost her WBO crown to Michigan-based Shields.
