Top Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or award at a ceremony held in Paris, France, on Monday evening.

The 34-year-old Benzema had a great season with Madrid scoring 44 times in 46 appearances in all competitions. 

Benzema, who was born from Algerian parents in Lyon, has won 23 trophies with Madrid. Those include five UEFA Champions League trophies and four La Liga. 

Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Alexia Putellas walked away with the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or gong. 

The 28-year-old Spaniard, who scored 24 goals for Barcelona last season, became the first player to win back-to-back Ballon d’Or Feminin. 

On the other hand, Barcelona and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski won the Gerd Müller award as the best striker of the year. The 34-year-old Lewandowski scored 57 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich last season.
