Durban’s 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, Moses Mabhida Stadium, is going to host a boxing tournament on Sunday, 11 December, Ink Sport can reveal.
This tournament is scheduled to be headlined by a clash between South African bantamweight champion Ronald Malindi and Jorge Luis Orozco Mendoza from Mexico.
Malindi and Mendoza are going to square up in a vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight title contest.
Initially, this shootout between the two boxers was scheduled for the Carnival City in Brakpan on Sunday, 6 November.
Contacted for comment, J4Joy Boxing Promotions chief executive officer Arnold ‘Squire’ Nododile said: “There’s nothing much I can say about the tournament at this stage. We are going to release details of the tournament in due course.”
Meanwhile, reigning SA junior-welterweight champion Prince Dlomo is set to defend his title against Marcus Lebogo in the same tournament.
Initially, Dlomo from Pietermaritzburg was pencilled to defend his crown against Lebogo at the Carnival City, Brakpan, next month.
Dlomo will be making his fourth defence of the title he captured when he defeated Xolani Mcotheli in March last year.
Already, Dlomo has defended his crown three times – against Siseko Makeleni, Mcotheli and Xolani Mgidi.
