Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has admitted that Cape Town City played good football during their DStv Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Citizens came from behind and defeated the Chilli Boys 2-1 through goals from Khanyisa Mayo and Thamsanqa Mkhize. Ronaldo Maarman scored for the Eastern Cape club.
“Congratulations to Cape Town City for playing good football. Coming back to the game, I think we had a plan. Of course, Cape Town City are a team that are not afraid to lose. They stick to their plan, no matter what,” Mammila said.
“They are the team that has the strongest wingbacks. We spent too much time defending those two fullbacks. After winning the ball, we didn’t rotate the ball enough so that we can rotate the space, especially the spaces left by the two fullbacks. We only did it once and we even scored. After that we couldn’t do better.”
Tuesday’s defeat denied the Gqeberha-based Chilli Boys a record five straight victories.
“It’s one of those games where we can say we were playing a better team,” the former Baroka FC chief executive officer remarked.
The Chilli Boys have now changed their focus to their next match, which is against Richards Bay FC at the Milpark Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.
“We will rectify our mistakes and move on to Richards Bay. Good team, they rely on transition. I think we’ve got a plan for them. We expect a 50-50 game. We need to control the game. I’m happy that we are a team that has scored five matches in a row. Scoring is not a problem now.”
