This could best be described as unthinkable as the Netherlands beat the Proteas by 13 runs in a Twenty20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval, Australia, Sunday.

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bowl first and the Dutch knocked 158 runs for four in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 159 runs to win, the Proteas were restricted to a score of 145 after losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Even the return of David Miller and Keshav Maharaj couldn’t help the South Africans,  who choked yet again when it mattered the most.

Colin Ackerman top scored for the Dutch with an unbeaten 41 from 26 deliveries and Stephan Myburgh knocked 37 after facing 30 balls.

All-rounder Rilee Rossouw was South Africa’s top scorer with 25 runs from 19 deliveries while Maharaj picked up two wickets.
