Erstwhile South African and world champion Lwandile ‘Angel’ Sityata is in pain in hospital following a car accident on Monday morning.
Sityata, a one-time SA flyweight, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-bantamweight titlist, was rushed to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane following a hit and run car accident.
“The accident happened on Monday. He is in hospital now,” Sityata’s younger brother Miniyakhe confirmed on Tuesday morning.
Apart from being an SA and IBO junior-bantamweight title holder, Sityata once held the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) International bantamweight, World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African fly and junior-featherweight titles.
Sityata’s last fight was a loss to reigning SA bantamweight Ronald Malindi in March 2020. And Sityata is the only South African boxer to have beaten current national flyweight champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke.
