A clinical Mamelodi Sundowns showed their class as they humiliated Orlando Pirates 4-0 in the final of the Carling Black Label Cup at a wet FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Saturday evening.
Sundowns scored all their goals after they had suffered two early blows as Surprise Ralani and Haashim Domingo were taken off injured. Ralani suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Lesedi Kapinga in the 16th minute.
Match referee Abongile Tom reduced the Buccaneers to 10 men when he red carded their defender Tapelo Xoki for a reckless tackle on Domingo in the 21st minute.
After dominating play, the Tshwane giants finally found the back of the net through Sphelele Mkhulise following a pass from Lebohang Maboe in the 23rd minute.
The Brazilians surged forward and defender Grant Kekana tapped in to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute much to the joy of their supporters.
Two minutes later, Cassius Mailula increased Sundowns’ lead when he scored the Brazilians’ third goal. Mailula, who scored his second goal of the day, had come on for injured Domingo. The 21-year-old Mailula completed his brace in the 66th minute after he beat Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane from outside the box.
