Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng remains humble and reckons that he hasn’t done anything so far and his best is yet to come despite dishing out some match-winning performances.
Saleng, who is in the Bafana Bafana squad preparing for international friendly matches against Mozambique and Angola in Nelspruit, has insisted that his teammates at Pirates have played a huge role in helping him play well.
“I didn’t do anything. I didn’t achieve more. My first season at Pirates, now people are looking at me. I’m in the spotlight now,” Saleng said.
The 24-year-old Saleng from Bloemhof in the North West doesn’t want to take credit for anything that he might have achieved so far.
This is so even though Saleng was instrumental in making sure that the Buccaneers won the MTN8 competition. He scored twice when they faced Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals in Polokwane last month and netted the winner in the final against AmaZulu in Durban more than a week ago.
“The way I’m playing is because I work very hard at training. I keep pushing myself and my teammates also push me. The way I play is how the coach wants me to play,” Saleng remarked.
Meanwhile, Saleng has revealed that he was should have gone and played for Kaizer Chiefs before joining Pirates.
“I was supposed to play for Chiefs. There was a scout when I was playing for Free State Stars. I don’t know what happened. I ended up at Pirates,” he said.
