Barring injuries, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos would have loved to have the same team he had in September against Sierra Leone when he faces Mozambique on Thursday and Angola on Sunday.
But that is impossible because of injuries to players like Sphephelo Sithole, Innocent Maela, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mihlali Mayambela, Terrence Mashego, Thibang Phete and Lyle Foster.
“The plan was to be here in this camp with the same team of September. We did a very good game against Sierra Leone. I wanted to see the same team,” Broos said.
“But you know we have seven injuries. Sithole, Maela, Sibisi, Mayambela, Mashego, Phete and Foster. It’s a pity that those players are not there.”
Though the 70-year-old Belgian is moaning about the unavailability of the seven players, he believes that this is a perfect opportunity for others to step up.
“It’s an opportunity for the new players who are here now. They are not here only because of those injuries. Because they did very good performances in the last month at their clubs. It’s an opportunity for them to show it at international level,” the former Cameroon national team coach said.
Bafana are going to play against the Mambas of Mozambique at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Thursday evening and then face Angola at the same venue on Sunday afternoon.
