Wales held the United States of America to a 1-1 draw in their FIFA World Cup opener at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Monday evening.

Timothy Weah, son of Liberian State President George Weah, gave the Americans the lead from a Christian Pulisic assist in the 36th minute. The 22-year-old Weah made history by becoming the first son of a Ballon d’Or winner to score a goal in the World Cup tournament.

Playing in their first World Cup finals in 64 years, the Welsh started the second half with more purpose as they kept probing in search of an equaliser with Gareth Bale spearheading their attack. After searching and trying, the Dragons equalised through Bale’s converted penalty in the 82nd minute.
