A goalkeeper nobody wanted in the Mexican squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals was a hero as Mexico and Poland played to a goalless draw in a Group  C match at the Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday evening.

Veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa saved Mexico from sure defeat when he denied star Polish striker Robert Lewandowski from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.

Match referee Chris Beath from Australia awarded the Poles the penalty after Hector Moreno had dragged Lewandowski by his shirt inside the box. The 37-year-old Ochoa, who is playing in his fifth World Cup tournament, denied Lewandowski his first ever goal in the global showpiece.
