Second half substitutes Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano were instrumental in helping Japan shock Germany 2-1 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup finals match at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday afternoon. 

Doan and Asano, who entered the fray when the Blue Samurai were trailing in the second half, caused heartbreaks to German supporters as they scored in the 75th and 83rd minutes.

The Germans had taken the lead through Ilkay Guendogan opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute. 

Meanwhile, Morocco played to a goalless draw with Croatia in an earlier Group F match at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City on Wednesday.
