Pre-tournament favourites Brazil were too good for Serbia as they beat them 2-0 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G match at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday evening.
The Brazilians threatened from the word go, but they found the Serbian defence in an uncompromising mood.
Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milikonvic-Savic was called into action as he denied the five-time world champions when he thwarted Vinicius Junior’s attempt in the 27th minute.
The South Americans started the second half by taking the match to the Serbians, who continued to frustrate them with their defending.
However, the Selecao finally found the goal they had long been looking for with Richarlison de Andrade beating Milikonvic-Savic in the 62nd minute following a nice move by Neymar Junior.
Richarlison completed his brace with an acrobatic volley following a Vinicius Junior cross from the left flank in the 73rd minute.
