Cameroon-born Switzerland striker Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the match when the Swiss national team defeated Cameroon 1-0 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup match at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar, on Thursday afternoon.
After a goalless first half, AS Monaco striker Embolo broke the deadlock when he beat Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana following a pass from Xherdan Shaqiri in the 48th minute.
The 25-year-old Embolo, who was born in the Cameroon capital city Yaounde, didn’t celebrate his goal in respect of his country of birth. Embolo has come through the Swiss junior national teams.
The Indomitable Lions became the fourth African team to fail to score in this tournament. Morocco and Tunisia drew goalless with Croatia and Denmark respectively while Senegal were beaten 2-0 by the Netherlands.
