Group E remained wide open after Costa Rica beat Japan 1-0 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup match at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Samurai entered the match as favourites following their 2-1 stunning win over Germany in their opening match and Costa Rica were humiliated 7-0 by Spain.

However, Costa Rican players showed that they were in the match to compete and made sure that they frustrated the Japanese.

Costa Rican Keysher Fuller broke the deadlock and scored the only goal of the match after the Japanese defence failed to clear in the 81st minute. The result has left Costa Rica with three points with one match to go.
