Finding opponents to fight against Hedda ‘Shredder’ Wolmarans from Johannesburg is proving to be a very tough task as at least three boxers have pulled out or were rejected by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
Wolmarans was due to make the first defence of her IBF Africa female junior-welterweight title in a rematch against Ruth Chisale from Malawi in Johannesburg next week.
According to the tournament organisers, the Malawian pulled out saying she had been given a better offer to fight in the United Kingdom.
The tournament organisers then lined up Kenyan boxer Joyce Awoni, who agreed to fight against Wolmarans. Unfortunately, Awoni’s challenge was rejected by the IBF.
Seeing that they were running out of time, the tournament organisers then decided to pit Wolmarans against Monalisa Sibanda from Zimbabwe in a non-title bout. The Zimbabwean agreed to face Wolmarans, but later pulled out citing short notice.
Meanwhile, Wolmarans, who has won all her seven fights with four of those via knockouts, has not fought since she won the IBF Africa title by a unanimous decision victory over Chisale in Johannesburg in March this year.
