Struggling Maritzburg United have bolstered their rearguard with the capturing of experienced defender Rafiq de Goede from Cape Winelands-based side Stellenbosch.
De Goede’s departure from Stellies was confirmed by the club on Thursday morning, but the Cape Winelands side didn’t specify where he’s going.
“The club can confirm that after consultation with Rafiq de Goede and his representatives we have accepted a transfer offer from a PSL Club. Rafiq has been one of the longest serving players at the club and has always been exemplary in his performances on the field and behaviour off it,” a Stellies statement said.
The 29-year-old De Goede was Stellies’ long-serving defender having started with the team when they were still campaigning in the National First Division (NFD) now called Motsepe Foundation Championship.
