Two-time South African welterweight champion Thulani ‘Evolution’ Mbenge is confident that he will return home with a win after his fight against Souleymane Cissokho this coming Saturday.
Mbenge and Cissokho are scheduled to fight for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight title at the Parc des Expressions in Nantes, France.
“I’m ready for this fight. My opponent is not going to finish the fight,” the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight champion, who left South Africa for France last weekend, said.
The 31-year-old reigning South African welterweight champion, who is trained by Sean Smith in Johannesburg, is rated fifth by the WBC while Cissokho is 11th in the welterweight division.
Mbenge has stopped his last three opponents – Iddi Pialari, Jabulani Makhense and Mziwoxolo Ndwayana – has a professional record of 19 victories (15 stoppages) and a loss. On the other hand, the 31-year-old France-based Cissokho, who was born in Dakar, Senegal, has won all his 15 fights having stopped nine of his opponents.
