Souleymane Cissokho won the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight title after he defeated South African boxer Thulani Mbenge by a majority decision at the Parc des Expressions in Nantes, France, on Saturday evening.
Two judges had the 31-year-old 2016 Olympic bronze medallist winning by 116-112 and 115-113 while the third judge had the fight as a 114-114 draw. France-based Cissokho, who was born in Dakar, Senegal, has now won all his 16 fights having stopped nine of his opponents.
On the other hand, Mbenge, who is the current South African welterweight champion, has dropped to 19 wins (15 knockouts) and two losses. This is the second successive loss for Mbenge on the road having lost his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight title to German boxer Sebastian Formella in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2019.
