After leading his country Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory in Qatar on Sunday evening, Lionel Messi walked away with the Golden Ball award following some splendid performances during the tournament.
The Paris Saint Germain superstar scored seven goals in this tournament – just one goal behind top goalscorer Kylian Mbappe. He ended up netting 13 in all World Cup tournaments.
The 35-year-old Messi scored a brace during the 3-3 draw with France in the final. The Argentines won 4-2 after the match was decided on penalties as the two teams played to a draw in 120 minutes.
Meanwhile, Frenchman Mbappe won the Golden Boot award after netting eight times during the tournament.
Mbappe, who is Messi’s teammate at PSG, scored the first hattrick in a World Cup tournament since Geoff Hurst netted three times when England beat West Germany in the final of the global showpiece in 1966.
Argentine Enzo Fernandez won the Young Player award and his teammate Emiliano Martinez bagged the Golden Glove award.
