Boxers who were contracted to fight in last week’s aborted J4Joy Boxing Promotions tournament in Durban are smiling from ear-to-ear after they received bank notifications of their full purses having been paid into their accounts.
The tournament, which was initially scheduled for the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday, 11 December, failed to take place even after two postponements.
The boxers had already tipped the scales and some of them were on the way to the fight venue when they were told that the tournament had been called off due to a number of reasons.
“I can confirm that my boxer has been paid and we are very happy about that,” a boxing trainer, who wanted to remain anonymous, said.
A boxer who was contracted to fight said: “I’m very happy that we have been paid our full purses. This has never happened before. I wanna thank J4Joy for this even though we didn’t get to fight last week.”
Rofhiwa Nemushungwa, Ronald Malindi, Azinga Fuzile and Mapule Ngubane are the South African boxers who were contracted to fight against foreign opponents.
Meanwhile, it’s not clear whether the overseas boxers, who signed to fight in that tournament have received their purses or not.
