Siyakholwa Kuse must forget about reclaiming the South African minimumweight title, so says current national champion Bangile Nyangani as he’s sweating it out at the gym preparing to face the Mdantsane boxer.

Mthatha-born Nyangani and Kuse are scheduled to meet in a rematch on Thursday, 23 February. Nyangani, who is trained by Alan Toweel in Johannesburg, will be making his third defence of the national title he won after he outpointed Kuse in East London in July 2021.

“We are working very hard preparing for this fight. I feel sorry for Kuse because he’s not going to get my belt. I even doubt he wanted this fight because he’s going to lose it. I’m going to beat him again and he will be very lucky if he finishes the fight. This belt belongs to Mthatha, not Mdantsane,” Nyangani said.

Rated in the top 15 by the world’s top four boxing bodies, the 28-year-old Nyangani has successfully defended his title against Gaveni Nkwenteni and Loyiso Ngantweni.

Nyangani is rated 12th by the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO). He’s eighth on the World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings.

Meanwhile, Kuse from Mdantsane has fought and won once since he lost the title to Nyangani. Kuse defeated Malawian George Kandulo at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, in September last year.
